The Helmerich Trust has awarded $5 million to Tulsa's River Parks Authority for , the new park it is building along the Arkansas River, reports.
The gift will fund a bridge that spans Peggy's Pond and links Williams Lodge and the Chapman Foundations' Adventure Playground to the ONEOK Boathouse and QuikTrip Great Lawn. Developed by the , the $350 million park will comprise roughly a hundred acres along both sides of the city's Riverside Drive. GKFF is contributing $200 million to the project, including $50 million in land, with the remaining funds to be raised from other groups and private-sector donors.
Walt Helmerich, a Tulsa oilman, civic leader, and co-founder of Helmerich & Payne, Inc., died in 2012. He was an advocate for the city's parks system and served many years on the Tulsa Park and Recreation Board, including seventeen as chair.
