Charleston Church Shares $1.5 Million With Survivors, Families

in Charleston, South Carolina, has announced that it will share nearly half of the funds donated to it after nine parishioners were shot and killed on June 17 with survivors of the attack and the families of those killed, the reports.

The gift, about $1.5 million of the $3.4 million donated in the wake of what police have called a racially motivated attack, comes from the city's Mother Emanuel Hope Fund, which raised nearly $3 million.

According to Emanuel AME, it will use its share of the gift for building improvements, a permanent memorial to the nine killed and five survivors, and scholarships and community outreach projects.
