$10 Million Research Initiative for Boys and Men of Color Launched

The has announced the launch of a three-year, $10 million initiative aimed at identifying and addressing the needs of boys and men of color.

The will support efforts to improve life outcomes for African-American, Latino, Native-American, and Asian-American males in four areas — education, health, criminal justice, and economic opportunity and workforce development. To be led by and the University of Pennsylvania's , the collaborative will work to achieve its aims by convening and supporting better knowledge sharing among researchers, evaluators, educators, and community activists; translating that research for policy makers, community stakeholders, journalists, and practitioner audiences; sponsoring new research and evaluation projects; and building an online portal to provide access to related research and other resources.

To date, , the , and the have committed a total of $8.5 million to the initiative.

"This is a bold effort to address racial disparities in a coordinated, strategic way," said Atlantic Philanthropies CEO Christopher G. Oechsli. "By using evidence and evaluation to inform actionable policy, RISE will help to dismantle the unfair obstacles to opportunity and equality that disproportionately impact not only young men of color, but entire communities."
